Kampala — The business community should utilise opportunities from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Olive Kigongo, has advised, write Ben Okiror and James Odomel.

"The business community should embrace this opportunity if they are to achieve the value-addition goal," Kigongo said after touring stalls of Ugandan exhibitors at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. The exhibition was part of events to mark the bank's 15th general meeting of shareholders.

The bank's president, Jean-Louis Ekra, said the bank was ready to promote Ugandan exporters.

"I have been impressed by the exhibition. What the traders need is encouragement because they have the potential," Ekra said.

Although Uganda is known for its coffee, he noted, there is diversification into areas like horticulture and fruit processing.
