The 10th edition of the biennale Confederation of Schools Sport Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Under-17 Ball Games gets under way in earnest in Walvis Bay today.

The four-day event will be hosted by the Namibia Schools Sport Union (NSSU) and four nations including hosts Namibia are to compete in various disciplines such as football for both boys and girls, volleyball for boys and girls, basketball for boys and girls and netball. The other three participating countries are Botswana, South Africa and Swaziland.

The Namibian contingent consists of 131 athletes and officials and Team Namibia arrived at the coastal town already on Monday the 25th August, for preparations and to familiarise themselves with the facilities and the weather conditions while the visiting nations were expected to arrive in the harbour town yesterday.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Ball Games have requested sport lovers and parents alike to come out in large numbers and support the young athletes in their endeavours to hoist the Namibian flag in the aftermath of Namibia's disappointing showing at the recently concluded Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
