Twenty eight people have been hospitalised in a referral hospital at Pantisanwa, Yoro Local Government Area of Taraba State after eating beans.

State Coordinator, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mr Stephen Laiko, disclosed this to THISDAY in an interview in Jalingo.

According to Laiko, the 28 allegedly purchased the beans in Jalingo and nearby Gombe State, adding that samples of the beans were collected immediately by the Agency and sent to Lagos for laboratory analysis.

He advised farmers to desist from using agro-chemical not registered by NAFDAC in preserving the products and pleaded with the general public to report any suspected cases of food poison to the Agency, for proper investigation.

He said deadline for bread registration by the Agency has been extended to end of this year and call on all bakers in the state to ensure that their products are enlisted before the deadline. He said as from next year, bread products without NAFDAC number will not be allow to circulate in the state.
