No fewer than three persons have been confirmed dead while 17 others were infected in another outbreak of Gastro-enteritis in Gidan Dangaji village , in Kware local government area of Sokoto state .
THISDAY checks revealed that the infected victims are currently receiving treatment at an isolated camp in Umarma Primary School in Kware local government area.
Director of Health, Kware Local Government Area, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmad, who confirmed the incident to THISDAY said the victims got infected as a result of contaminated water.
According to Hajiya Hadiza, the victims were moved to the isolation camp with the view to curtailing the spread of the disease, pointing out that some of the patients are responding to medication.
She explained that concerted efforts were being made by the ministry to prevent the escalation of the disease, adding that adequate medicaments have been procured and administered to the patients.
Chairman of Kware Local Government Council, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim, who visited the camp yesterday, sympathized with the families of the victims, describing the outbreak as the will of Almighty Allah.
He said all necessary drugs and assistance had been made by the council and called on the people of the area to maintain proper hygiene and ensure that their surroundings are kept clean regularly.
Commenting on the outbreak, State Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Jabbi Kilgori commended the swift intervention of the council in order to curtail the spread of the disease.
He assured that the state government will supplement the efforts of the council in ensuring adequate provision of potable water in the rural areas.
